DIAMOND, the most desired of all the precious stones and the hardest naturally occurring substance known (Jer 17:1). It is pure carbon and commonly occurs as octahedral crystals. Diamonds have been mined in India from the earliest times, and this must have been the source of all famous diamonds of antiquity.
