Double-Tongued

DOUBLE-TONGUED (δίλογος, G1474). A word which occurs only once in the NT (1 Tim 3:8). It designates one of the qualifications of a deacon. He must not be double-tongued, i.e. saying one thing at one time and something else at another time. Cf. Lat. bilinguis which has the meaning, “hypocritical,” or “false.” Related forms are found in other lit. with the sense, “repeating.”
