Flock

FLOCK. A word used to tr. three Heb. and two Gr. words: עֵ֫דֶר֒, H6373; used to refer to a group of sheep or goats, or both together (Gen 29:2; Song of Solomon 4:1; Joel 1:18); also used fig. of Judah as the flock of God, the object of His special care (Isa 40:11; Zech 10:3). צֹאן, H7366; also used to refer to sheep. or goats (Gen 4:4; 38:17), the context sometimes making clear that it does not include both (1 Sam 25:2), and to Judah (Ps 77:20; Jer 23:2); מִקְנֶה, H5238, “cattle” (Num 32:26). ποίμνη, ποίμνιον. These Gr. words are used exclusively in a fig. sense of the Church (Matt 26:31; Luke 12:32; Acts 20:28, 29; 1 Peter 5:2, 3).
