Foretell, Foretold

FORETELL, FORETOLD (see [http://biblegateway/wiki/Prophets and Prophecy PROPHECY]; προεῖπον, G4597, Mark 13:23; προκαταγγέλλω, G4615, Acts 3:24; προλέγω, G4625, 2 Cor 13:2). The actual use of the word “foretell” is found tr. only three times in the KJV, all of which are in the NT. In the RSV and NASB the word or phrase which is used instead is “saying beforehand” or “announcing beforehand.”

The concept of foretelling is very old and goes back to the role of the prophet. The prophets dealt primarily with their contemporary situation, but in light of future events.
