Furrow

FURROW (גְּדוּדָה, H1523, Ps 65:10; מַעֲנָה, H5103, or מַעֲנִית, H5105, Ps 129:3; 1 Sam 14:14; תֶּ֫לֶם, H9439, Job 31:38; 39:10; Hos 10:4; 12:11. All these words carry the meaning of plow path or plow trench). In the KJV two other Heb. words are tr. as “furrow.” The word found in Hosea 10:10 is better tr. as “guilt.” The word found in Ezekiel 17:7, 10 is better tr. as “bed” (of plants).

The furrow or plow trench was usually made with a single-handled wooden plow pulled by an animal. Iron was available after David’s period, but wood continued to be used in many instances. See Agriculture.
