GILOH gī’ lō (גִּלֹ֑ה; rejoicing). A city in the mountains of southern Judah (Josh 15:51). It was the home of David’s counselor, Ahithophel (2 Sam 15:12; 23:34 RSV GILO). It is generally identified with modern Khirbet Jala, a few m. NNW of Hebron. On the derivation of the name, see S. R. Driver, Notes on the Hebrew Text of the Books of Samuel, 2nd ed. (1913), 312.
