GIZONITE gī’ zə nīt (Heb. גִּ֣זﯴנִ֔י), appears only in a list of David’s mighty warriors (1 Chron 11:34), a masculine gentilic derived from an ancient place-name. Traditionally understood as a patronymic, but more likely of Old Canaanite origin. Location presently unknown; however, the man described by the term Gizonite is stated in 2 Samuel 23:32 to have been, in fact, the son of Jashen which makes the geographical ascription of Gizon more certain.
