GOB gŏb (גֹּ֖וב, גֹּב, locusts). A town mentioned only in 2 Samuel 21:18 and 19 where David’s men twice battled the Philistines and the family of Goliath. It was presumably close to Philistine territory since Gath occurs in vv. 20 and 22. The parallel in 1 Chronicles 20:4 locates the battles in Gezer rather than Gob. The LXX and Syriac have “Gath” in place of “Gob” in Samuel. Although the MT of Samuel may be corrupt here, it should be noted that the name “locusts” fits the practice of sometimes naming towns after animals or insects.
