Green

GREEN (יֶ֫רֶק, H3764, green, greenness, herbs, greens; χλωρός, G5952, yellowish or pale green). A color produced by a mixture of blue and yellow; the color of the foliage of growing plants.

The Heb. root yrq usually refers to vegetation. There is an adjective, רַעֲנָן, H8316, (from רָעַן, H8315), that is employed principally to describe the luxuriance of trees, but also anything that is luxuriant, fresh, flourishing, and healthy. דֶּ֫שֶׁא, H2013, means simply “grass” (Ps 23:2). Although other words (חַי֒, H2644, לַח, H4300, אֵב, H4, and רָטֹב, H8183) are sometimes rendered as “green,” their basic connotation is that which is living, moist, fresh, growing or flourishing, and new. In the NT, χλωρός, G5952, is used of grass (Mark 6:39; Rev 8:7); in Revelation 6:8 it is tr. “pale.” Greek ὑγρός, G5619, “moist, green,” is attested in Luke 23:31.
