HABAIAH hə bā’ yə (חֳבַיָּ֖ה, Jehovah has hidden). Alternately, HOBAIAH, hō bā’ ye (Neh 7:63). KJV OBDIA ŏb dĩ’ ya (1 Esd 5:38). The head of a family of priests who returned after the Exile claiming priestly descent. Since they were unable to prove their claim, they were not allowed to serve, at least for a time (Ezra 2:61; Neh 7:63).
