Half-Shekel Tax

HALF-SHEKEL TAX (δίδραχμον, G1440). The amount required for the annual Temple tax of each Jew over twenty years of age (Matt 17:24; cf. Exod 30:13, 14). The value of the half-shekel was equal to two Attic drachmas or about two day’s pay in NT times.
