HANANI hə nā’ nĭ (חֲנָ֔נִי, gracious). 1. The father of the prophet Jehu (1 Kings 16:1, 7; 2 Chron 19:2; 20:34). He was thrown into prison for rebuking King Asa for relying on Syria.

2. A Levitical musician; son of Heman, David’s seer, the head of a course in the Temple (1 Chron 25:4, 25).

3. One of the priests who divorced their foreign wives in the time of Ezra (Ezra 10:20; 1 Esd 9:21 KJV, ASV ANANIAS).

4. A brother or kinsman of Nehemiah who brought news to Susa of the distressing condition of the Jews in Pal. (Neh 1:2). He was subsequently made one of the governors of Jerusalem (7:2).

5. A musician who took part in the dedication of the walls of Jerusalem (12:36).
