HANDLE. As a noun translates three Heb. words: כַּף, H4090, (palm) refers to the handles of a sliding bolt (Song of Solomon 5:5 RSV), יָדַ֥יִם (two hands) denotes the two handles of a piece of pottery (Isa 45:9), and עֵץ, H6770, (wood) denotes an axe handle (Deut 19:5).

As a verb “handle” trs. אָחַז֒, H296, (hold, grasp, 2 Chron 25:5), תָּפַשׂ, H9530, (hold, grasp, Jer 2:8), ἅπτομαι (touch, Col 2:21 RSV), θιγγάνω, G2566, (touch, Col 2:21 KJV), and ψηλαφάω, G6027, (touch, handle, Luke 24:39). Other words tr. “handle” are עָשָׂה֮, H6914, (squeeze, press, Ezek 23:3, 8, 21 RSV), מוּשׁ֒, H4630, (touch, feel, Ps 115:7 KJV), מָשַׁכְ, H5432, (grasp, drag, Judg 5:14 KJV), and עָרַכְ, H6885, (arrange, 1 Chron 12:8 KJV). Other passages use “handle” as a part of an idiom with a different meaning (2 Tim 2:15 RSV; Prov 16:20 KJV, Mark 12:4; 2 Cor 4:2).
