Harness

HARNESS (אָסַר, H673, tie, imprison, harness). Occurs in the phrase “harness the horses” (Jer 46:4), but elsewhere rendered “yoke the cows” (1 Sam 6:7). In the KJV “harness” is the old Eng. rendering for שִׁרְיﯴן, H9234, “body-armor, breastplate” (RSV), in 1 Kings 22:34 and 2 Chronicles 18:33. Another noun, נֶ֫שֶׁק֒, H5977, is more properly “equipment, weapons” (2 Chron 9:24). The difficult חֲמֻשִׁ֛ים, “armed, in battle array,” appears as “harnessed” (KJV, Exod 13:18), while the RSV supplies “equipped for battle.”
