Heldai

HELDAI hĕl’ dī (חֶלְדַּ֕י). 1. A Netophathite, descended from Othniel; one of David’s mighty men (2 Sam 23:29; 1 Chron 11:30; 27:15); a captain of the Temple guard for the twelfth monthly course (1 Chron 27:15). Heleb in 2 Samuel 23:29 must be an error. Spelled as Heled in 1 Chronicles 11:30, but “Heldai” is supported by Zechariah 6:10. Both “Heldai” and “Heled” are from the same root, so that either may be right.

One of a group of Jews who brought gold and silver from Babylon to help the exiles who had returned under Zerubbabel (Zech 6:10). From these gifts a crown was to be made for Joshua the high priest (Zech 6:10, 14). In v. 14, the KJV and ASV have Helem.
