Hoshaiah

HOSHAIAH hō shā’ yâ (הﯴשַׁ֣עְיָ֔ה). 1. One of the princes of Judah who took part in the ceremonial procession at the dedication of the walls of Jerusalem (Neh 12:32).

2. The father of Azariah, one of the commanders of the people after the fall of Jerusalem who sought counsel from Jeremiah concerning remaining in Judah or going to Egypt (Jer 42:1; 43:2; cf. 2 Kings 25:23, 24). In Jeremiah 42:1 the MT reads Jezariah but the LXX Azariah in agreement with Jeremiah 43:2. See Azariah.
