RINGSTREAKED (עָקֹד, H6819, striped). This word (KJV, RINGSTRAKED) is used seven times to describe in part the livestock which became Jacob’s while working for his uncle, Laban (Gen 30:35, 39, 40; 31:8, 10, 12 ASV). It means to be of mottled color. Whether or not this color variation lay in the form of bands depends on whether the word is correctly related to the root עקד, meaning “bind,” which is commonly accepted but considered dubious by some (cf. BDB, 785).
