Valley Gate

GATE, VALLEY (שַׁ֥עַר הַגַּ֖יְא, 2 Chron 26:9; Neh 2:13, 15; 3:13). The Valley Gate is mentioned in two OT contexts. The first mentions that Azariah or Uzziah built “towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate and at the Valley Gate...” (2 Chron 26:9). This gate is mentioned again in the days of the return (c. 440 b.c.) as the place where Nehemiah began his inspection night walk. He went out of the gate heading S around the Pool of Siloam and then N past the Fountain Gate until there was no more space for his mount to walk. After the inspection tour, he returned again to the Valley Gate. This gate was on the western side of the city facing the Tyropoeon Valley.
