VESTURE (בֶּ֫גֶד֮, H955, ἱμάτιον, G2668, garment; περιβολαῖον, wrapper). A more pretentious word for clothes or clothing, e.g. in the loftier style of Genesis 41:42 (KJV, ASV). Pharaoh arrayed Joseph in “vestures of fine linen.” Similarly, in the prophetic passage of Psalm 22:18, KJV, ASV, where, to preserve the parallelism of the Heb. poetic form, “vesture” forms a synonym for “garments.” See also the stylistic use in Psalm 102:26 (KJV, ASV), and Revelation 19:16 (KJV).
