14:47–51 This gives a summary of Saul’s military accomplishments (vv. 47, 48) and details about his family and Abner’s (vv. 49–51). A comparison of this section with the longer summary of David’s victories and officers in 2 Sam. 8 reveals a number of similarities, but also a telling difference: nowhere in the summation of Saul is there anything akin to the statement repeated about David, that “the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went” (2 Sam. 8:6, 14).
