Some have suggested reconstructing the difficult Hebrew on the basis of Septuagint (the Old Testament Greek translation) to read “well of the threshing floor on the bare height.” This could have been a familiar landmark, such as are mentioned more than once in Samuel (20:19; 2 Sam. 20:8).
