14:3 took away . . . the high places. Asa removed pagan high places from both Jerusalem and “all the cities of Judah” (14:5), but 15:17 (1 Kin. 15:14) indicates that these initial efforts were not continued throughout his life. A similar explanation holds for the descriptions of Jehoshaphat’s removal of high places (cf. 17:6; 20:33).
