entice unsteady souls. In contrast to the “established” believers of 1:12, the “unsteady” lack a firm foundation in the Christian faith, and are easy prey to the enticements of false teachers.

trained in greed. An athletic metaphor. At least part of their purpose in making disciples was to profit financially from them (vv. 3, 15).
