20:12 Sabbaths. The Sabbath (vv. 13, 16, 21, 24) is singled out as a law unique to Israel, one that most clearly distinguished it from the nations. The Sabbath is often cited as an important example that stands for the whole law (22:8, 26; 23:38; 44:24; cf. Neh. 13:18; Is. 56:2, 4, 6; Jer. 17:19–27).
