4:5, 6 390. The time period to which the figures 390 and 40 refer are hard to interpret. Each day represented one year (v. 6; cf. Num. 14:34; Dan. 9:24–27). It may be that the 40 days do not follow the 390 days (for a total of 430), but are concurrent with them. Some regard the total of 430 years as a symbolic reference to the length of Israel’s sojourn in Egypt (Ex. 12:40–41).
