40:2 high mountain. Presumably Mount Zion, site of the temple in Jerusalem (17:22–24; 20:40; cf. Ps. 48:1, 2; Is. 2:2; Mic. 4:1). The prophet would tour the holy mountain just as the psalmist had (Ps. 48:12, 13).
