6:9 glean thoroughly . . . the remnant. Farmers were not supposed to glean everything, but to leave something behind for the poor (Deut. 24:19–22); Babylon, however, may “glean” Judah completely (contrast 5:10). The Lord has deeper purposes behind the permission He gives (23:3 note).
