1:45 of whom Moses . . . the prophets wrote. Philip recognizes that all the Old Testament, both Law and Prophets, anticipated a great redemptive work of God to be accomplished by a special anointed One. The Old Testament anticipation of Christ and His work was affirmed by Christ Himself (Luke 24:25–27, 44–47) and was central in the preaching of the apostles (Acts 2:29–32; 3:18, 21, 24; 7:52, 53; 8:30–35; 26:22, 23; 28:23).

the son of Joseph. This does not imply a denial of the virgin birth, of which Philip may not in any case have been aware; it is simply a reference identifying Jesus by His town and family (Matt. 1:24).
