12:25 Whoever loves his life. Those who are absorbed by the interests of life on earth encounter ruin, while those detached from worldly interests will through Christ’s work attain to eternal life (Matt. 10:39; Luke 17:33). It is in the service of Christ and in union with Him that the truth of this statement is experienced (ch. 14).
