16:26 I do not say . . . that I will ask the Father on your behalf. Jesus is not saying that He will cease to pray for them (Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25; 1 John 2:1); it means that the disciples will have reached a certain maturity in prayer, so that He will not need to pray in their stead.
