17:1 Father. This word occurs over one hundred times in John’s Gospel. In the prayer of ch. 17 it is found six times.

the hour has come. Jesus was fully conscious of what was going to happen.

glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you. The perfect life of the Son in His incarnation gives glory to the Godhead. The Son is glorified in His crucifixion, resurrection, and enthronement at God’s right hand—these events are viewed as a composite unity in this Gospel. See notes 12:23; 13:31.
