20:31 these are written so that you may believe. This states the purpose of this Gospel. Through the signs narrated, the reader is to come to faith in Jesus as more than a miracle worker. He is Christ, the incarnate Word, with the Father and the Spirit as Triune God. Through believing, we find life in Him who is the source of life (6:32–58).
