6:35 I am the bread of life. This is the first of seven such “I am” sayings in this Gospel (8:12; 9:5; 10:7, 9, 11, 14; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1, 5). The expression looks back to Ex. 3:14 and is an implicit claim to deity (8:58, 59 and notes).
