9:27–31 The healing of two blind men related here is similar to the account in 20:29–34, as well as to the healing of Bartimaeus narrated in Mark 10:46–52 (cf. Luke 18:35–43). Both Bartimaeus and the blind men in Matthew 9 and 20 express their faith by calling Jesus “Son of David,” a messianic title. The similarities have suggested to some that both accounts in Matthew are based on the healing of Bartimaeus, but there are sufficient differences at least between the two accounts in Matthew as to indicate separate incidents.
