Ps 132

Ps. 132 Here is a lament asking God to save the king (vv. 1, 6–9). The psalm grounds the petition in God’s covenant with David (vv. 10–12; cf. 2 Sam. 7 and Ps. 89) and in the choice of Zion as a revelation of God’s earthly presence (see Ps. 46; 48; 76). Since vv. 8–10 are quoted in Solomon’s prayer (2 Chr. 6:41, 42), it is likely that this is the time of its composition. After the period of the Hebrew monarchy, the psalm’s reference to the Messiah became increasingly clear.
