Ps. 87 The object of this psalm is to glorify Jerusalem, or Zion, the seat of God’s special presence; see Ps. 46; 48; 76. The unique contribution of Ps. 87 is to give a glimpse of the universal character of God’s worship. Its universalistic language brings to mind the future day when the Gentiles should be “fellow heirs” in the gospel (Eph. 3:6).
