8:6 marvelous. The Hebrew word denotes something beyond human strength and understanding, typically with reference to a divine action. For other examples of this emphasis see Gen. 18:14 (“hard”) and Judg. 13:18.
remnant. Those faithful to God in the midst of disobedience. Paul speaks of “a remnant, chosen by grace” in Rom. 11:5. The elect of God are preserved to serve Him faithfully. See notes Is. 1:9 and Mic. 2:12.
