The first lot for Asaf fell to Yosef, the second to G’dalyah; he, his brothers and his sons numbered twelve;
The musicians were divided into 24 groups of twelve, and each group went by the name of their family leader. They were assigned their duties in the following order: Joseph, Gedaliah, Zaccur, Zeri, Nethaniah, Bukkiah, Asarelah, Jeshaiah, Mattaniah, Shimei, Uzziel, Hashabiah, Shebuel, Mattithiah, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Joshbekashah, Hanani, Mallothi, Eliathah, Hothir, Giddalti, Mahazioth, and Romamtiezer.
And the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph; to Gedaliah the second: he and his brethren and his sons were twelve.
And the first lot came forth to Joseph, who was of Asaph. The second to Godolias, to him and his sons, and his brethren twelve.
The first one chosen was Asaph (Joseph). Second, there were 12 men chosen from Gedaliah’s sons and relatives.
They chose 24 groups of musicians. There were 12 musicians in each group and each group had its leader. These were the names of the leaders of each group, from the first to the last that they chose: 1. Asaph's descendant Joseph, with his sons and his relatives. 2. Gedaliah, with his sons and his relatives. 3. Zaccur, with his sons and his relatives. 4. Izri, with his sons and his relatives. 5. Nethaniah, with his sons and his relatives. 6. Bukkiah, with his sons and his relatives. 7. Jesarelah, with his sons and his relatives. 8. Jeshaiah with his sons and his relatives. 9. Mattaniah with his sons and his relatives. 10. Shimei with his sons and his relatives. 11. Azarel with his sons and his relatives. 12. Hashabiah with his sons and his relatives. 13. Shubael with his sons and his relatives. 14. Mattithiah with his sons and his relatives. 15. Jeremoth with his sons and his relatives. 16. Hananiah with his sons and his relatives. 17. Joshbekashah with his sons and his relatives. 18. Hanani with his sons and his relatives. 19. Mallothi with his sons and his relatives. 20. Eliathah with his sons and his relatives. 21. Hothir with his sons and his relatives. 22. Giddalti with his sons and his relatives. 23. Mahazioth with his sons and his relatives. 24. Romamti-Ezer with his sons and his relatives.
So the first lot came out for Asaph’s son Joseph. ⎣He and his brothers and sons totaled twelve.⎦ The second lot fell to Gedaliah, his brothers and sons, twelve,

First, the lot fell to Joseph, from the ·family [clan] of Asaph [C the number twelve needs to be understood here, as in the following verses, to make the total come to the stated 288]. Second, twelve men were chosen from Gedaliah, his sons and ·relatives [kinsmen; L brothers].
And the first lot fell to Joseph, which was of Asaph, the second, to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and his sons were twelve.
The first lot drawn chose Joseph, the son of Asaph. The second chose Gedaliah, his sons, and his relatives—12 men.
These 288 men were divided according to families into twenty-four groups of twelve, with a leader in charge of each group. This is the order in which they were on duty: 1) Joseph of the family of Asaph; 2) Gedaliah; 3) Zaccur; 4) Zeri; 5) Nethaniah; 6) Bukkiah; 7) Asharelah; 8) Jeshaiah; 9) Mattaniah; 10) Shimei; 11) Uzziel; 12) Hashabiah; 13) Shebuel; 14) Mattithiah; 15) Jerimoth; 16) Hananiah; 17) Joshbekashah; 18) Hanani; 19) Mallothi; 20) Eliathah; 21) Hothir; 22) Giddalti; 23) Mahazioth; 24) Romamti Ezer.

Asaph’s first lottery was cast in favor of Joseph; the second went to Gedaliah, that is, to him, to his relatives, and his sons, for a total of twelve;

Joseph (son of Asaph) drew the first lot; and the other singers drew lots in this order, second through 24th: Gedaliah, Zaccur, Izri, Nethaniah, Bukkiah, Jesharelah, Jeshaiah, Mattaniah, Shimei, Azarel, Hashabiah, Shubael, Mattithiah, Jeremoth, Hananiah, Joshbekashah, Hanani, Mallothi, Eliathah, Hothir, Giddalti, Mahazioth, and finally, Romamti-ezer. Each man who drew a lot represented 12 men, including his sons, his brothers, and himself, and these 24 groups served in the temple two weeks each year as the Levites did.
