So the people of Isra’el gave the L’vi’im these cities with the surrounding open land.
Only Aaron and his descendants were allowed to offer sacrifices and incense on the two altars at the sacred tent. They were in charge of the most holy place and the ceremonies to forgive sins, just as God's servant Moses had commanded.

They also did the ceremonies to make the Israelites pure. They followed all the rules and laws that Moses, God’s servant, commanded.

That was their work in the Most Holy Place. They made sacrifices so that God would forgive the sins of the Israelites. They did all this in the way that God's servant Moses had commanded.
But it was Aaron and his sons who presented offerings on the altar for burnt offerings and on the altar for incense, to carry out all the work of the Most Holy Place and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

So Bnei-Yisrael gave to the Levites the cities with their open land.

Forsooth Aaron and his sons burnt incense upon the altar of brunt sacrifices, and upon the altar of incense, into all the work of the holy of holy things; and that they should pray for Israel, by all things which Moses, the servant of God, commanded (and they prayed for Israel, following the commands which Moses, the servant of God, had given).
And Aaron and his sons are making perfume on the altar of the burnt-offering, and on the altar of the perfume, for all the work of the holy of holies, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses servant of God commanded.
