As a result, the people of Israel suffered a great defeat because, wanting to do a brave thing, they didn’t obey Judas and his brothers.
Because they did not hearken to Judas, and his brethren, thinking that they should do manfully.
This great defeat came about because the Jewish commanders wanted to be heroes and refused to obey Judas and his brothers.
It was a great setback for the people, because they had not obeyed Judas and his brothers, thinking that they would do brave deeds.
Thus the people suffered a massive defeat because they had not heeded the instructions of Judas and his brothers, but instead attempted to match their brave accomplishments.
Thus the people suffered a great rout because, thinking to do a brave deed, they did not listen to Judas and his brothers.
