He lay there for many days because he was deeply depressed. He realized that he was dying.
And he remained there many days: for great grief came more and more and more upon him, and he made account that he should die.
He remained ill for a long time, as waves of despair swept over him, until he finally realized that he was going to die.
There he remained many days, assailed by waves of grief, for he thought he was going to die.
He lay there for many days, overwhelmed repeatedly with disappointment, and he realized that he was at the point of death.
He lay there for many days, because deep disappointment continually gripped him, and he realized that he was dying.
