And his return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel, and there he built an altar unto the Lord.

But Samuel always went back to his home in Ramah. There he built an altar to the Lord and judged Israel.
But he always returned to his home at Ramah. He was a judge for the Israelite people there too. He built an altar in Ramah to worship the Lord there.

Samuel gave solid leadership to Israel his entire life. Every year he went on a circuit from Bethel to Gilgal to Mizpah. He gave leadership to Israel in each of these places. But always he would return to Ramah, where he lived, and preside from there. That is where he built an altar to God.
But his return was to Ramah, for his house was there and there he judged Israel. And there he built an altar to the Lord.
Then he would return home to Ramah. There, too, he judged Israel. And in Ramah he built an altar to Yahweh.
Then he used to return to Ramah, for that was his home. There, too, he judged Israel and built an altar to the Lord.

His return was to Ramah, for his house was there, and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to Yahweh there.
And he turned again into Ramah, for his house was there; and he deemed Israel there, and he builded there also an altar to the Lord. (And then he returned to Ramah, for his house was there; and he judged Israel there, and he also built an altar there to the Lord.)
and his returning [is] to Ramath, for there [is] his house, and there he hath judged Israel, and he buildeth there an altar to Jehovah.
