Rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father, and the younger men as brethren,

Do not sharply reprimand an older man, but appeal to him as [you would to] a father, to younger men as brothers,
Do not sharply censure or rebuke an older man, but entreat and plead with him as [you would with] a father. Treat younger men like brothers;

An ancient man rebuke not, but entreat him as a father: young men, as brethren:
Don’t speak angrily to an older man. But talk to him as if he were your father. Treat the younger men like brothers.
Do not speak strongly to an older man and tell him what he must do. Instead, ask him in a kind way, as you would speak to your father. Speak to younger men as you would speak to your brothers.

1 Having set down a manner how to rebuke all degrees. 5 He entreateth of widows, who then were chosen for the service of the Church: 17 Then he cometh to Elders, 23 and speaketh somewhat touching the health of the body. To a Zaken do not speak harsh rebuke. Rather entreat him as an abba. Treat the bochrim as achim (brothers).
