Some men in the towers bribed greedy people around Simon. These people in turn, after receiving seventy thousand drachmen, allowed some of the enemy to slip away.
Now they that were with Simon, being led with covetousness, were persuaded for the sake of money by some that were in the towers: and taking seventy thousand didrachmas, let some of them escape.
but some of Simon's men were greedy, and when they were offered 140 pounds of silver, they let some of the enemy escape from the forts.
But some of those in Simon’s force who were lovers of money let themselves be bribed by some of those in the towers; on receiving seventy thousand drachmas, they allowed a number of them to escape.
However, Simon’s men were avaricious, and they allowed themselves to be bribed by some of those who were in the towers. After receiving seventy thousand drachmas, they permitted a number of them to slip away.
But those with Simon, who were money-hungry, were bribed by some of those who were in the towers, and on receiving seventy thousand drachmas let some of them slip away.

Soothly these that were with Simon, were led by covetousness, and were counselled by money, of (or by) some that were in the towers; and when they had taken seventy thousand double drachmas, they let some [to] flee out.
