One of them, speaking on behalf of the others, said, “What do you hope to ask and learn from us? We are prepared to die rather than sin against our ancestral laws.”
But one of them, who was the eldest, said thus: What wouldst thou ask, or learn of us? we are ready to die rather than to transgress the laws of God, received from our fathers.
Then one of the young men said, What do you hope to gain by doing this? We would rather die than abandon the traditions of our ancestors.
One of the brothers, speaking for the others, said: “What do you expect to learn by questioning us? We are ready to die rather than transgress the laws of our ancestors.”
One of the brothers, acting as a spokesman for the others, said, “What do you expect to achieve by questioning us? We are prepared to die rather than transgress the laws of our ancestors.”
One of them, acting as their spokesman, said, ‘What do you intend to ask and learn from us? For we are ready to die rather than transgress the laws of our ancestors.’

One of them, acting as their spokesman, said, “What do you intend to ask and learn from us? For we are ready to die rather than transgress the laws of our fathers.”
Forsooth one of them, that was the first, said thus, What seekest thou? and what wilt thou learn of (or from) us? we be ready for to die, more than to break the fathers’ laws of God.
