Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad, and a bribe destroyeth the heart.
Surely extortion maketh the wise man foolish; and a bribe destroyeth the understanding.
For oppression makes a wise man foolish, And a bribe corrupts the [good judgment of the] heart.
Surely oppression and extortion make a wise man foolish, and a bribe destroys the understanding and judgment.
¶ Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
Surely, the practice of extortion turns a wise person into a fool, and a bribe corrupts the mind.

But oppression can make a wise man stupid; also a gift can destroy understanding.
Corruption makes fools of sensible people, and bribes can ruin you.
Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad, and a gift destroyeth the heart.
For as the crackling of thorns burning under a pot, so is the laughter of a fool: now this also is vanity.
Even the wise will forget their wisdom, if someone pays them enough. That money destroys their understanding.
If a wise person cheats people, he becomes a fool. If you accept a bribe, you will no longer think properly.
To be sure, oppressing others turns a wise man into a fool, and a bribe corrupts his heart.
