Wake up, wake up, ·Jerusalem [L Zion; C the location of the Temple]! ·Become strong [L Clothe yourself with/Put on strength]! ·Be beautiful again [L Put on beautiful/glorious clothes], holy city of Jerusalem. 1 A consolation to the people of God. 7 Of the messengers thereof. Arise, arise: put on thy strength, O Zion: put on the garments of thy beauty, O Jerusalem, the holy City: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.
Wake up, wake up! Pull on your boots, Zion! Dress up in your Sunday best, Jerusalem, holy city! Those who want no part of God have been culled out. They won’t be coming along. Brush off the dust and get to your feet, captive Jerusalem! Throw off your chains, captive daughter of Zion!
Wake up! Zion, wake up! Dress yourself with strength as if it were your clothes. Holy city of Jerusalem, put on your clothes of glory. Those who haven’t been circumcised will never enter you again. Neither will those who are “unclean.”
Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion. Put on your beautiful clothes, O Jerusalem, the holy city. For those who have not gone through the religious act of becoming a Jew and those who are unclean will not come into you any more.
Awake, awake; clothe thyself with thy strength, O Tziyon; put on thy garments of splendor, O Yerushalayim, Ir HaKodesh; for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the arel (uncircumcised) and the tameh (unclean).
Wake up, fair Zion; dress in your strength. Put on your most elegant clothes, O Jerusalem, holy city. Never again will outsiders—uncircumcised and the unclean— who once abused and denigrated you move within your elect borders.
Rise thou, Zion, rise thou, be thou clothed in thy strength; Jerusalem, the city of the Holy (One), be thou clothed in the clothes of thy glory; for a man uncircumcised and a man unclean shall no more lay to, that he pass by thee (for the uncircumcised, and the unclean, shall never again enter thy gates).
