A drought is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up! For it is the land of graven images, and they are mad over their idols.

“A drought on her waters, and they will dry up! For it is a land of [worthless] idols, And they are mad over fearsome idols [those objects of terror in which they foolishly trust].
A sword and a drought upon her waters, that they may be dried up! For it is a land of images, and they are mad over idols (objects of terror in which they foolishly trust).

Sword, strike the waters of Babylon. Those waters will be dried up. Babylon has many, many idols. These idols show that the people of Babylon are foolish. So bad things will happen to them.
There will be no rain on the land so that the rivers and streams become dry. I will send all this trouble because their whole land is full of idols. The people become crazy because they are afraid of their idols.
A sword against her waters! They will be dried up, because it is a land of idols, and they are driven mad by those dreadful images.

War to the death on her soldiers, cowards to a man! War to the death on her hired killers, gutless wonders! War to the death on her banks—looted! War to the death on her water supply—drained dry! A land of make-believe gods gone crazy—hobgoblins! The place will be haunted with jackals and scorpions, night-owls and vampire bats. No one will ever live there again. The land will reek with the stench of death. It will join Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, the cities I did away with.” God’s Decree. “No one will live there again. No one will again draw breath in that land, ever. * * *

There will not be any rain for their rivers. So they will dry up. Those things will happen because their land is full of statues of gods. Those gods will go crazy with terror.
