“I have set thee as a tower and a fortress among My people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
I have made thee a trier and a fortress among my people; that thou mayest know and try their way.
“I [the Lord] have set you as an assayer [O Jeremiah] and as a tester [of the ore] of My people, That you may know and analyze their acts.”
I [says the Lord] have set you [Jeremiah] as an assayer and a prover of ore among My people, that you may know and try their doings and be like a watchtower.
I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
I have appointed you to be an assayer among my people— a refiner— so you may know and assay their way of life.
I have made you a tester of metals, to examine my people to know and prove their ways.
“I have made you a refiner and tester of my people, to know and test how they behave.
Jeremiah, test my people as though they were metal.
I have set thee among my people as an assayer, a fortress, that thou mayest know and try their way.
I have set thee for a strong trier among my people: and thou shalt know and prove their way.
“Jeremiah, I want you to be like a worker who tests metals. You will test my people and watch how they live.
The Lord said to me, ‘I have sent you to test my people. Test them like someone tests metal. Watch them carefully, to see how they live.
I have made you like someone who tests metals. My people are the ore that is being tested. Observe them, and examine their ways.
“I have made you a tester of metals among my people, that you may know and test their ways.
“I have made you a tester of metals among my people, that you may know and test their ways.
“I have made you [C Jeremiah] like a ·worker who tests metal [L tester and refiner/or fortress] among people [C who are like the ore]. You must ·observe [know] their ways and test them.
I have set thee for a defense and fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their ways.
“Jeremiah, I have put you in charge of testing and refining my people. You will know how to test their ways.
Jeremiah, test my people, as you would test metal, and find out what they are like.
I have appointed you to be an assayer among My people— a refiner— so you may know and assay their way of life.
“Jeremiah, I have made you like a worker who tests metal. And my people are like the ore for the metal. You must observe their ways. And you must test them.
“I’ve made you an assayer of my people, as well as a fortress. You know how to test their way.”

“I have made you an assayer among my people, a fortification, so that you may know and put to the test their ways.
Jeremiah, I have made you an assayer of metals that you may test this my people and determine their value. Listen to what they are saying and watch what they are doing.
God gave me this task: “I have made you the examiner of my people, to examine and weigh their lives. They’re a thickheaded, hard-nosed bunch, rotten to the core, the lot of them. Refining fires are cranked up to white heat, but the ore stays a lump, unchanged. It’s useless to keep trying any longer. Nothing can refine evil out of them. Men will give up and call them ‘slag,’ thrown on the slag heap by me, their God.”
I have set you as an assayer and fortress among My people that you may know and try their way.
“Jeremiah, I have put you in charge of testing and refining my people. You will know how to test their ways.
A tester for my people I have appointed you, to search and test their way.
“I have made you an assayer and an examiner among My people, So that you may know and put their way to the test.”
“I have made you an assayer and a tester among My people, That you may know and assay their way.”
I have designated you as a tester of my people so that you may learn and test their ways.
“Jeremiah, I have made you like a worker who tests metal, and my people are like the ore. You must observe their ways and test them.
The Lord said to me, “I have made you like a metal assayer to test my people like ore. You are to observe them and evaluate how they behave.”
The Lord says to me, “I have made you like one who tests metals. My people are the ore. I want you to watch them and test the way they live.
“I have made you a tester of metals and my people the ore, that you may observe and test their ways.
‘I have made you a tester of metals and my people the ore, that you may observe and test their ways.
“I have set you as an assayer and a fortress among My people, That you may know and test their way.
“I have asked you to test My people, that you may know and test their ways.”
“Jeremiah, I have made you a tester of metals, that you may determine the quality of my people.
I have made you a tester and a refiner among my people so that you may know and test their ways.
I have made you a tester and a refiner among my people so that you may know and test their ways.

I have set thee for a bachon (tester, assayer) of Ami (My People); that thou mayest know and test their derech (way, conduct).

“I have made you a metal-tester among My people— so you may observe and test their way.
Eternal One (to Jeremiah): Put My people to the test. Examine their ways as a refiner tests the ore’s purity.
“I have made you a tester of metals and a fortress among my people, that you may know and try their way.
I gave thee to be a strong prover in my people, and thou shalt know, and prove the way of them. (I gave thee to be a strong assayer, or a strong tester, of my people, and thou shalt know, and prove their ways.)
A watch-tower I have given thee, Among My people a fortress, And thou knowest, and hast tried their way.
