Jokneam, Kartah, Rimmonah, and Nahalal were from Zebulun. Bezer, Jazah, Kedemoth, and Mephaath were from Reuben. Bezer was located in the desert flatlands east of the Jordan River across from Jericho. Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim, Heshbon, and Jazer were from Gad. Bezer and Ramoth in Gilead were Safe Towns for people who had accidentally killed someone.
[These were] all the cities of the children of Merari according to their families, which remained of the families of the Levites, and their lot was twelve cities.
With their suburbs, each distributed by the families.
In all, the last family of Levites, the Merari family, got 12 towns.
So the clans of Merari received 12 towns. That was all the Levite clans.
All the cities for the descendants of Merari according to their clans, the rest of the clans of the Levites—their allotment was twelve cities.
